IP 101

Intellectual Property is often referred to by its acronym "IP" and it encompasses Patent, Trademark, Copyright and Trade Secret Law. Many people have heard of patents and almost as many have heard of trademarks, however, almost everything the average person knows about patents and trademarks is based on something they think they remember from a movie or TV show and is often incomplete, misleading and often wrong. I have been working with intellectual property throughout my career as a electrical engineer for NASA and my years as a patent attorney. I have seen many people miss opportunities or outright lose their rights to their inventions because they didn't understand all the rules of the game they were trying to play.
